Bartering is an inescapable part of the shopping experience in Egypt. The initial price offered to you is usually going to
be more than twice the actual price of the item. Don't be discouraged, and don't be fooled by whatever is said about a product.
Trust your instincts, and make an offer that you feel is fair. Haggling is part of the game, and in most cases what you see
is what you get. In all cases, don't buy anything unless you are absolutely satisfied with the price.
In Egypt the
workweek starts on Sunday, rather than Monday. Friday is considered a prayer day, and all banks and shops are closed. On Saturday,
banks are also closed, but other establishments are usually open. Sunday is just like any other workday, and most business
establishments are open.
