Peru is located on the western edge of South America and is bordered by Ecuador, Columbia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile.
Peru’s
main geological feature is the Andes mountain chain that runs along the Pacific coast. The Andes divide Peru into three regions.
The west is made up of arid plains broken by seasonal rivers. The Highland Plateau region of the Andes contains Peru’s
highest peak on Mt. Huascarán at 22,200 feet. The third region is made up of part of the Amazon called the Selva Jungle.
Peru has many rivers. The west side of the Andes contains short seasonal rivers that cut through the plains.
To the east the rivers are longer and flow from the highlands to become tributaries of the Amazon River.
