Most of the people in Mongolia are of Mongolian ethnicity, but there are also populations of Kazakhs and Tuvans, especially
in the western reaches of Mongolia.
Most Mongolians follow Tibetan Buddhism. In Mongolia, Tibetan-Buddhist traditions
with ancient Shamanist practices are still evident. Every day, you can hear the low tones of the horns used to call the lamas
to the temple for their daily rituals.
Over a third of the nation’s population lives in the city of Ulaanbaatar,
and about twenty percent of the population lives on less than $1.25 USD per day.
