A visa is required to enter Turkey and one can be purchased at your point of entry. A 90-day visa sticker currently runs at
$20 USD, cash only. Anyone planning on staying in Turkey for more than three months needs to apply for a residence permit,
work permit, or Turkish ID card within the first 30 days of his or her visit. When entering Turkey make sure
to get your entrance stamp in your passport because anyone who does not have one on departure may be detained. Due
to a revision of residency laws in Turkey, be sure not to stay beyond the date required by your visa or residency permit.
To do so now subjects you to deportation, a fine, and a travel ban on returning to Turkey. The travel ban may be from three
months to five years depending on the length of time you stayed past your required departure date. Be aware
that traveling across the Turkey, Iraq border may be time consuming. The Turkish government tightly controls this border,
which often causes travel delays. All arriving international air travelers will be subject to a thermal scan
to determine temperature in order to catch cases of the H1N1 virus. Travelers with heightened temperatures will be quarantined
in a local hospital for up to a week.
